How can I tell if a level is a frosting level or a bubble level, etc?

Hello @Patricia_Gillis i also had the same problem too.
bubble is getting the bears above the string
frosting is finding the bears

I am glad that you raised this question because a lot of players are unaware of the differences between each levels. In a FROSTING Level, your task is to FIND the required number of BEARS to complete it. In the BUBBLE Level, your task is to find and clear the SODA BOTTLES to fill the area with soda liquid so you can move the BEARS up above the Candy String thereby completing the Level. Both Levels require a certain number of BEARS as your goal to complete. The difference is the execution of how these BEARS are collected.

Hope the useful comments above answer your question about the differences :) I'll just add this, when you click a level, the preview screen will always show the symbol of the game mode and the goal, so you'll be able to know beforehand what type of level you'll play, for example:
- "Find the bears!" and a blue bear for frosting game mode , -
- "get the bear above the candy string" and a pink bear for bubble game mode, "
- "eat the honey and save the bears" and a orange bear for honeycomb game mode.
