I have the same glitch. Your method does not work. @LoFiGummy said this issue has been fixed in latest version in another thread that was announcement a long time. But it appears to be not.

Please try to force close the game app, turn off your device for at least 10 seconds, restart your device, check for game and device updates and log back in. Also, make sure you have at least 2GB free memory storage to run the game smoothly.
