What am I doing wrong?
I am on level 40 of Alphabetty, you need to come up with a predetermined amount of 4,6 and 7 letter words. Each time I come up with the words in the specified amount of letters the game doesn't seem to recognize it or give me the credit. The word is accepted by the game but if I come up with a 4 letter word, it says I still have to come up with 8, 4 letter words. Same thing is happening with the 6 and 7 letter words. If I come up with a 5 letter word or more, then it usually counts as a 4 letter word. I've been playing the game for a few days and so far has been fun, I just need to know what I'm missing here. BTW I understand in order for it to count as a 6 and 7 letter word, you need to use that many letters. Any help/advice is appreciated

Could be as Teariana says, also blank tiles don't count in the total either.
On the other hand, if on the left you see one of the counters highlighted in green when you've highlighted a word, and once you make it doesn't award it, you could be having this issue with crowns not adding the extra 1 that people seem to be having recently.

By any chance, when you made the match, that 5 letter word had a "Line Blaster"? If so, that line might have had a "Crowned" letter and because the "Line Blaster" clears up that whole line, and the Crowned letter was being counted, And hence, the letter count for your word must be counting as 6 letter word instead of 5 letter word!

level 89 ... 9 words in 19 moves
this level will prepare you for word lists in the future
level 89 is not easy
there are many ways to approach this level ... here are are 2 different ways
1) early blaster approach
do not worry about making words to make the objective early in the game
make a blaster or two to break entanglers ... 8-way blasters are highly recommended
make one horizontal blaster to hit the move stealers
general approach
when a 4-letter word is found ... look for a 5-letter word
when a 5-letter word is found ... look for a 6-letter word
when a 6-letter word is found ... look for a 7-letter word
avoid 3-letter words
2) the blast crowns approach ... a bit more advanced
flood the board with crowns by making 4-letter words early in the game(using entanglers)
crowns included in a word add to the word length
however, it is better to blast crowns ... blasted crowns add to the word length and most are returned to the board
this approach will be invaluable on many word-list levels past level 89
with either approach ... it is best to start with an 8-way blaster on the first move
be prepared to use the quit button if a fast start is not possible
