In fact the "use boosters during levels" task counts all boosters used during a level, not just those depicted on the image. So timed UFOs can be used for this task, as can a timed party popper or the timed striped brush you might get from the weekly race chest.

@Spinnifix You can check the time on the UFO and Party Popper boosters by going into your inventory just before you start the next level. That is what I do to check how much time I have left on them. It's very useful.
