When I was a senior in high school, my brother and I went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood with friends. One house we went to had a sign in the front window that said "free kittens in basement". We didn't know them but thought a free kitten sounded fun so we went around the house to the basement and got one to take home. Mom and Dad didn't tell us to return it so we went back and got another one.
Can you imagine doing that now?!? "Free kittens in basement" sounds like the beginning of a scary movie.
My favorite thing about Halloween is seeing the joy on my daughter's face! It is clearly her favorite holiday. She dresses up as a witch and sits on the porch stirring a cauldron of brew, which includes a dry ice fog draping down the sides. She has an incredibly scary mask...and it can frighten some children. But when she reaches into her goodies bag, their fear is replaced with a cautious approach to get their treats.
