What is the purpose of upgraded characters

I have silver, gold, and rainbow characters; yet they do not do anything different than the original one. What is the purpose of the silver, gold and rainbow characters?

There is not benefits such as extra powers - These are cosmetic items that do not affect the characters ability... but hey, look at that, don't they look AMAZING?!

Who will be the first to get the rainbow??

I have no idea about that either! It might be nothing more than just an upgrade for the characters' regular costumes.

They don't serve any purpose. Just another feature / get-up of the regular characters. If they had additional powers than the levels could be cleared far easily.

to be frank I am seriously thinking about just dropping this out together I've actually spent money too much money this is just as far as I can see a bait and switch
