2. The Candy Lady - When parents say don't take candy from strangers, they really mean don't take candy from strangers! That's the moral of The Candy Lady urban legend. Back around the turn of the 20th century, a bunch of children started going missing in a small rural Texas county. The legend claims it was The Candy Lady, who was known for dropping off small candies on children's window ledges during the night. Soon the candy would come with a note asking for the children to come out and play with her, and the children were never seen again.
3. Bloody Mary is one of the most popular ghosts in the world. But who was she, really? No one actually knows. There are hundreds of legends about this famous legendary character. Some say she was a widow who killed her children, while some say she was a young child who was murdered and is wandering around her grave. Other tales say the ghost is Mary Worth, a woman said to be a witch who was burned at the stake.
4. Cropsey the boogeyman from Staten Island, NYC. He was rumored to be a homicide madman, an escaped mental patient with hook for a hand, who hinted children and dragged them back to the tunnel system that lay under the abandoned ruins of old Seaview Hospital, a former tuberculosis sanitarium.
5. River Mumma is a Jamaican legend. Legend says that River Mumma inhabits the rivers of Jamaica, and all the fish are River Mumma's children. Sometimes, people say, River Mumma rises out of the river to sit on the rocks and comb her long, black hair. But, like they say, don't touch River Mumma. Don't even look at her. There's no telling what she will do if you try. Some say if you so much as see her, you'll fall into a trance and she'll grab you by the heels and drag you under the river. If you try to catch her, the fish will disappear; the river will run dry. It's best, they say, not to make trouble with River Mumma.
