How to get events?

So I was never given the opportunity to take part in the Octopus or the Troll event. What magical special thing do I have to do to get future events to show up for me? Or have I got to level 1172 for nothing?
I have tried logging out of my king account, reinstalling which lost all of my bonuses and playing on a different device and still did not get them.
So which god do I have to sacrifice my first born to in order to at least get a chance to play these events?
(I emailed support and the sent me an automated message about how I get new levels by completing the ones I still have to do. Yeah thanks support, level 1172 says hi)

I am very sorry to hear that you have not received the special events for Olivia and Bubble Gum Troll!! I also completely understand your frustration!!
I came to know that the King team tries their best and releases these new events to maximum number of players. But, few are left out due to technical difficulties! Unfortunately, you are one of those players to whom King could not send the event(s)
After receiving the feedback from Olivia event, some of the Kingsters came to the Community for the Troll event, and helping out the players, who ever did not receive it! And they made sure that those players also got the event
But later, when only few days were left in the event, they could not add anymore players!! If you could have posted when the event was started, I am sure you also have had the Troll in your collection now!!
But, it is OK! We are hoping that King might be able to bring them both for us to collect them with regular stickers or may be Star Chaser... remember, that's how we have collected Misty and Santa Yeti!!
From our end, all we have to do is, keep our game up to date and install the latest version whenever it becomes available.
I would also suggest you to keep an eye over here in the Community! Because, Community In-charge posts about what might come into our games, what should we expect, etc.,
