Jam tarts and donut shaped blockers

Does anyone know why the jam tarts in jam levels and the donut shaped blockers in heart levels were introduced at the end of last year but were shortly removed in the middle of this year ? I think that they were a nice addition to the game and that they added more colour and more of a theme based on the different game modes and I would like to see them come back. Does anyone else agree with this idea ?
