I noticed in the game that the helpful character is not always put into play. It's really hard to choose which character is best for this level.

Sometimes you have chosen the right chart character immediately and can finish the level immediately.

Because if you have a biscuit level, Tiffy's ability is of no use. For example.

I agree that the friend you would choose is not always there when you go to play a level. I sometimes find that when I've played and failed a level a number of times, one of the friends available changes to the one you would have chosen at the outset.

I try everyone except Tiffi in biscuits as it doesn't make any sense. It also depends on the combinations and the cascades that result. It's also a matter of luck.

There are a few boards where if the friend I want is there that's what I do.

If possible I use Dach for cookies (biscuits) as I find him most helpful on those levels and complain when he isn't an option

Olivia I like for octopuses as sometimes my issue is the pesky one on the corner.

Yeti is my basic go to

Otherwise I feel it's all luck
