It sounds like you are playing another game, as the feature you are describing is not included in Candy Crush Friends. If you look at the toolbar at the top of your screen, you will see a 🏠 icon that says “Games.” Click on it and it will take you to a screen where all games are listed. You can find your game, go to their forum, and post your question there. Someone will be happy to help!
