If it is currently the only fix for this is to uninstall and reinstall the game but in doing this if it is a mobile device you will lose any stored boosters and lives.

Please check the below link. Connection issue is a very complicated issue and it is due to many reasons. Try some troubleshooting steps as mentioned below otherwise as freddy told above there is no option but to reinstall the game.
