What are special candies and do they have any effect on the board?

A special candy is a type of candy that is not a regular candy, blocker, or other elements such as candy bombs. In other words, their effect is stronger than that of regular candies. They are usually helpful in all kinds of levels, especially moves and jelly levels. Special candies and their combinations are often required for orders, if not, they can blow out huge amounts of regular candies and blockers. They can also cause huge cascades. In addition to that, they can help you bring down ingredients. But sometimes, they might not be so effective, especially if the board space is highly restricted. They might even be your foe in levels where you have a particular plan. Still, they are helpful in the majority of levels.

But what exactly are the types of special candy? You're about to learn about the types of special candies!

Special Candy Types

Basic Types

If you have finished the first few levels of the game, you're probably familiar with the basic types of special candies. There are three. The easiest to make of all is the striped candy. A striped candy blasts a whole line of candies.

There are two types of striped candies, as shown above. Vertical striped candies will create a vertical blast. Horizontal striped candies will create a horizontal blast. To create and activate a special candy, follow these steps:

Vertical

1: Match candies with the same orientation:

2: You will get:

3: Match the candy of the same color to get:

Horizontal:

1: Match candies with the same orientation:

2: You will get:

3: Match candies with the same color to get:

Now you've learned about the striped candy!

Wrapped candy is the second type of special candy. It is harder to make because you need to match candies in a T or L shape. However, all wrapped candies (except their colors) have the same traits. Once matched, it will blow out a total of 9 candies, 8 of which are surrounding, and the other one being itself. There are two explosions.

1: Make one of the following two matches. Any orientation will result in the same thing.

2: Match candies with the same color to get:

The color bomb is hardest to make. You need to match 5 candies in a row. Orientation does not matter. (Note that the middle candy is actually orange. That's how the color bomb formed. The color bomb is always in the middle when formed manually. By cascades, it can form in any of the five orange candies.

Once formed, you can switch it with any candy color. Doing so will remove one color from the board. For example, matching it with an orange candy will remove orange. This is not a good choice if the order asks you to collect orange candies, and so on. However, this is essential when making color bombs. The color to remove when trying to make color bombs should NOT be the most prominent on the board.

Other Special Candies

Yes, there's more special candies. However, they are introduced in higher levels. Neither of the two following special candies can be formed. They can only be obtained through the following:

  • Boosters
  • Mystery Candies
  • Lucky Candies (Only in Order Levels)
  • Naturally on the Board

Jelly fish (also known as Swedish fish) are gummy fish candies that target random candies, usually jellies, going under blockers if needed. When activated, it swims away, replaced by three. Note, however, that if there is a single double jelly left, even three fish cannot eat it Only one layer is removed. If there are three or less single jellies, they can. This is the same for a blocker hiding the last jelly, whether single or double.

Coconut wheels are special candies that create striped candies or wrapped candies. When matched with anything other than blockers or wrapped candies, they start rolling in the direction of the candy matched with it. The rolled candies turn into striped candies. When matched with color bombs, the color bomb activates, then the entire row/column is filled with striped candies. The direction: When rolled left or right, it is vertical. When rolled up or down, it is horizontal.

In addition to special candies themselves, there are also combinations.

This does not hold any extra powers for a combination, effectively making it the weakest combination and merely a freely switching pair. Both candies will detonate, with one always being horizontal and the other always being vertical, like a cross. If you select a striped candy, then swap it with a striped candy next to it, center of the cross will be the 2nd candy.

Becomes a giant candy that clears a 3Ă—3 area left and right, and then up and down. (Similar to striped+striped but in a 3Ă—3 area)

    Wrapped + Wrapped Combination

    Creates 2 5*5 explosions

    Striped+Color Bomb

Every candy of the color of striped candy becomes a striped candy (EXCEPT LUCKY CANDY). All the striped candies activate. Some are horizontal, some are vertical.

    Color Bomb+Wrapped

Transforms all candies of the color of the wrapped candy to wrapped candies (EXCEPT LUCKY CANDIES). Then they will go off from top to bottom.

    Color Bomb+Color Bomb

Clears the entire board, affects every single candy except chocolate spawners.

Creates three striped fish which lands on random spaces convert any eaten candy (e.g. with no blockers) into striped candies that then activate.

Creates three wrapped jelly fish which convert any eaten candy into wrapped candies and activates them. Similar to UFO in jelly levels.

Turns other candies with same colour of the fish in mix into new jelly fish. These fish will search for priority targets immediately.

Turns up to six candies into striped candies and set them off.

Causes the coconut wheel to follow the full path of the row/column it is on, turning each candy it touches to wrapped candies and activates them. This is not an ideal choice if you want to bring ingredients down from the very top. It is however heloful during wrapped candy order levels.

Colour Bomb is activated first, activating normally. Then, the coconut wheel converts a whole row/column of candies into Striped Candy and activates them. This effect is the same with a Coconut Wheel to Coconut Wheel combination but with only one whole row instead of two whole rows created.

Now you know all about special candies and their combinations! I took all the photos but credits to level 1, level 10, level 1000, level 1055, and level 1275 because to show you the combinations I "used" the levels. Was this article helpful?
