Can one still reset board and not lose lives??

Unfortunately not, as soon as you open the game and leave it again, you lose a life.

Hello there @susansteyn and good day to you.
There was certain time the board can be reset without having to lose a life as I've come across it before. However, like our Mr Werner pointed out, you will lose a life if you quit the level and reset it. Also there is a message that prompts you first if you wish to reset/quit the level so you get to keep your life.

The game is constantly undergoing changes and sometimes we miss past features like: reset the board without having to lose a life, Sugar Drops and etc.But this is the life we enjoy the existing and miss the past.
