Tagging is achieved by using the '@' symbol in front of a username. It only works though if the person you are tagging receives notifications when tagged.
Take care when tagging as I have found it difficult to remove an unwanted tag. Type one letter at a time and let the system showcyou the names is the best way, don't type a name all at once

I seen what you mean you can't erase a tag...tiny letters and 4am don't go hand in hand.
