Candy Crush can be played for free. If you are new to the game you will be given some boosters and free gold bars in the first few levels of the game. If you have spent all your starter gold you can earn some in special events. But yes, of course like most games of this kind, there is a "shop" where you can buy boosters and gold to help your game paying with real money.
