Well I was only on level 1077 in this game. Levels don't really get horrible until about level 2000. I started playing about two or three weeks ago. Levels up to 200 can be played and won with no boosters or gold if you are willing to let go of your win streak and wait for a lucky board. So that is three UFOs and one party popper saved up from the freebie they give every player.
Levels 200 onwards I used my usual strategy: Use starting boosters on first and second attempt for legendary and nightmarishly hard levels. If I fail twice I pay 10 gold bars to play on when the game offers me enough moves for 10 gold, so that may be after 5 or six attempts.
I play one episode at a time without stopping ( or within 24 hours if I run out of lives) so I make sure I win every race.
I use the events to their full potential: Season Pass I make sure I get to the top. "Don't feed the troll" I make sure I get all the prizes and that is where those party poppers came from, I don't use them except perhaps to fulfil the last order for the gold chocolate box. (Both of these events you can easily achieve the top prize by playing and replaying old levels) Top That I get some rewards just by playing my usual game. I also had the baker's box event that gives some boosters as you get one spoon for each new level passed and I passed loads so I made it to the top prize, which included a UFO. I bought some striped candies with gold bars. I may also have bought some of the other boosters with gold bars, I am not quite sure to be honest. If I don't like the look of an entire episode I sometimes buy timed colour bombs and timed wrap/stripe for 9 gold each and I can play the entire episode in that half hour they last. As I have won every episode race and fill a lot of gold chocolate boxes, I had enough gold to invest in boosters.

Just asking, how do you accomplish so many boosters you have accumulated?. I try to save as many as I can.I got a few color bombs, wrapped stripes, hammers, but never any UFO or party blasters.....
The Troll upset my game plan a bit because it gave me unlimited lives and unlimited colour bombs. So once I got to +255 extra moves and replayed level 1077 about 10 times before I managed to pass, but that was with one extra colour bomb on my starting board that I got from the Troll event. By the way, it only took me 6 minutes to get all the orange candies to stop the troll from eating the cake.
Oops, now "don't feed the troll" shows up just as I've run out of lives. Now how do I get out of that one…. Naughty me, I shouldn't have wasted my time testing out impossible levels….!
