Yes, you will have to pay to unlock the piggy bank. There are 7 levels in the Piggy Bank. The gold bars are offered as a discount.

@ash05 You can only purchase the gold from the piggy bank and only way to get free gold in the game is from episode race which offers top 3 places gold bars is you have this feature.
You could also take a look around the community as there a lot of contests and competitions to win free gold bars. You should enter some of these you never know your luck

Hello @agro and welcome to our wonderful community! The easiest way to get gold bars in Candy Crush Saga without paying for them is to win the episode race. When you start a new episode, if you beat the 4 other randomly chosen players in your race and finish first you get 5 gold bars, 2nd place you get 3 and 3rd place you get 1. I wait for new levels every week so when I play the three new levels - I try to finish the episode in one sitting so I can win the 5 gold bars. Another way is you sometimes can get 1-2 gold bars when you collect sugar drops. The third way is to enter the various contests that are offered here in the community. If you are one of the winners you can usually win anywhere from 5-25 gold bars.
Anyone else have an issue with the booster wheel not letting you spin? Mine says come back in xxx hours for the next spin, but the next spin never comes. I am so stuck on level 7280 and I need some booster help!!
