No pop up appeared in my game anyway.
Are there any tips for completing 9990? By the time the board is fully opened up, you have hundreds of each colour to collect and about 5 moves to do it in.
In my book, that is fairly stretching the definition of 'challenging' anyway!

Matter of fact they had a review and level 9990 has been redesigned twice. First time it was a level with 4 colors and the difficulty was very easy because there were a lot of cascades.
After that it was redesigned just like many levels are redesigned before being released on mobile. With less moves, with the number of colors increased, with blockers that have more layers and so on, without thinking too much.
I know, some levels from Win10 App are very easy, they can be won without combos and I can understand that they are made harder where you can beat them with a couple of combos, but why are so different the versions of the same level. Why it cannot be, for example, version 1 doable with 2 combos and version 2 with 3 combos? Instead of the present versions: Version 1 doable without combos, Version 2 doable only if every move brings cascades that gives you a color bomb next to a color bomb and all you have to do is combine them?

Yes! Level 9990 - 9999 is extremely challenging! Level 9990 is the hardest level in the first episode.
I have spent many gold bars and consuming too many IGBs to complete all levels I mentioned before.
Conclusion: The 'remastered' version of those levels are harder than the original version. Please review those levels again and make it easier to play!

That appears to be the crux of so many complaints on here. Whenever a level is tweaked to become harder, is isn't a minor change, see how it plays, and review again. It's a full blown assault to make it nearly impossible to complete. You end up with a load of levels each episode that are rated as normal, but are all harder than the one that is rated as super/nightmarishly hard. And as you say, rely on a generous helping of cascades.
If there is one thing King could please consider, it is gradual changes to levels.
