You don't have to play new levels to qualify. I qualified just playing old levels as I have no new levels at the moment.

I am ready, in my top of Candy Crush game. The other game hasn't got this event. I'm not sure if the event is going to disappear though in game 1. Lately every event has disappeared before I got to either play in the final or before I got the reward. Just in case I'll wait with the new levels until Friday. π€
