New Ideas Duplicate

Okay I'm confused. So I checked to see if my idea was a duplicate on the Master List and I didn't realize it was, so it got closed, which is fine. What I don't understand is that the other ideas like mine were also closed for being duplicates of the very first idea which apparently didn't get enough votes so it was closed. One of them had begin to get traction and was going to start to be tagged for others to vote but it got closed because it was a duplicate of the very first one. I understand only having one new idea, I understand closing duplicates like mine, but I don't understand closing a duplicate that essentially wasn't a duplicate if the others were closed. I'm just confused and would love some help with understanding for the future. Thank you to all the moderators and king family π«Ά

Hello @AmberRaeLeo whilst you wait on an official response I thought I would have a go at answering your question. I hope you don't mind.
I understand only having one new idea, I understand closing duplicates like mine, but I don't understand closing a duplicate that essentially wasn't a duplicate if the others were closed.
Once one idea has been submitted every idea with the same/similar subject that follows is a duplicate. This applies even if the original idea gets closed and archived due to not having enough votes.
To put it another way if when someone is submitting an idea they find a closed idea on the same subject then they should not submit their idea as it is a duplicate.
Once thing to notice though an idea that is marked as 'read only' isn't necessarily dead. If you look at the idea I said was a duplicate of yours you will notice that even though it is marked as read only it is still marked as 'active'. This means people can still vote on it. Read only just means you can't add a comment.
Personally speaking Amber I think the ideas area needs an overhaul as it doesn't seem to be actively managed at the moment. Instead of closing every duplicate idea I wish that every idea on the same subject was rolled into one collection thread. This approach would inform King of how popular an idea actually is.

I have been incredibly busy π©..I usually at least check in once a week but I just have not had the time, so my apologies. But you did a great job explaining it, and yes it is very confusing the way it is right now but I'm just a player soπ€·πΌββοΈ I was just trying to get more involved in other aspects of the King Community and ran across this. I am glad you found my explanation useful, but please be mindful that as I am just a normal member of this community I have no idea if I am right.
