Thanks for that and I appreciate your interest in stats. I think King decide on a prize based on what they think will encourage players to spend money on the game. What matters is not how much gold players need to play but what seems attractive enough a prize. Most players don't make any calculations of this sort so King don't need to make them either.

For those of us who do make the calculations the prize is not enough to pay for the cost of winning it, but we pay to have fun in the competition. In my normal game outside leadboard competitions I aim to never lose gold, so spend less than 45 gold per episode, knowing that I will win back 45 gold in the champions race. I save boosters by not routinely using starting boosters and will forfeit my win streak if I cannot pass a level with just one booster, using my 20 lives from friends to play until the game allows me to pass. So this is a different playing strategy I normally use and it would be too time consuming to keep up with the leaders in the semi finals or finals.
