Booster prices make no sense, so who spends gold to buy them?

The recent hike in the price of lollipops and hand switches from our inventories has made it even more crystal clear just how buying these boosters for gold makes no sense at all.

Any level which requires a single lollipop to pass can also be passed by buying 5 extra moves at the cost of 10 gold bars. So why would anyone spend 10 gold to buy a lollipop?

Okay, in theory you can use boosters offline, but who plays Candy Crush offline these days?

Why did King decide to increase the prices for them? Either they are playing mind games again or they think we are stupid. Or maybe the AI has gone rogue again.

Hi Christine @christinewupp mine are 3 for 29 gold, 10 for 89 and 20 for 169. So they are not quite 10 gold for 1 but still another change not liked by anyone. 😕

Trying to rip people off who aren’t paying attention to the prices i guess. Just another shady move by king like how you lose ads if you buy stuff with real money.

Well @christinewupp if all the complaints are anything to go by then tournament players play offline. I wonder if this change to the cost of boosters is linked to King trying to discourage offline play in tournaments, or at least maximise what they can make from tournaments.

Probably not, but you just never know with King

It wouldn't surprise me if this were the reason @Alienscar . In fact that thought had occurred to me and your comment has made me think. It certainly would seem that King are actively discouraging us from buying boosters with this price increase. In fact I can see why: Our inventories are hidden from King's view and that will cause a problem to them in their efforts to control our games and spot cheating in tournaments. This is also probably why we have seen the move towards timed boosters from events. Using boosters as and when we like gives players some autonomy. What King fail to see is that a sense of autonomy is needed for the enjoyment of the game. Just being puppets playing the algorithm through as intended renders the game mind numbingly boring.

Thanks for pointing that out, I made some edits to my post to rectify. So one lollipop would cost a tiny fraction less than 10 gold bars. Even before the price increase I had already stopped spending gold to buy lollipops. I find it quite sad that they aren't value for money since using boosters wisely is part of the fun in the game. So it saddens me to see that the most efficient way to play successfully is not the most enjoyable way. I really do think King have got that balance wrong. Using boosters should be cheaper than using extra moves, as it's much more satisfying and gives us a sense of achievement. Who gets any achievement out of passing a legendary level with 255 extra moves?

Hi @Carol-38 my price for 20 lollipops and switches is 119 gold. Yours is 169? Strange.

@christinewupp Good Morning to you! (I'm so aware of our time differences 😺!)

Last week I decided to play new Levels/Episodes which resulted me playing 5 Episodes due to Candy Royale enticing me to do so! LOL Needless to say, I won lots of Gold Bars.

In answer to your question, yes, I bought a bundle of each of lollipops and switches (20 each) with my Gold because these levels are pretty tough as you know. Sometimes I need them, other times I don't. I just like to have those boosters in the bank!

Question for you, what else is the abundance of Gold Bars good for other than spending them on boosters? IMO, spend them when you need them!

    Have a great day, girlfriend!

    😻 Happy Crushin'!

Thanks for you input @Rhonda_L . Congratulations on your Candy Royale success!

Indeed, this is one of those moments for which the lollipops are useful: Lollipops are sometimes needed by players wishing to complete Candy Royale as you cannot replay levels until the game gives us 35 or more extra moves for our ten gold bars. At the higher levels certainly quite often 5 extra moves still leaves us a jelly or two short, so I can understand players purchasing lollipops to keep a win streak going.

A lot of levels in the highest ranges often require a selection of boosters to pass and even when I have timed party popper plus UFO from my daily win I still find I may need a lollipop or two at the end to pass those levels, so near the top of the game lollipop hammers and switches (to get those two colour bombs to line up) are quite definitely useful. I do understand why you would purchase them playing at the top. I don't have enough gold in my end of game account to purchase them and that is one of the reasons I am cross with King for the price hike.

However I think the economics for new players are different from those at the top. In my latest test games and also in my main game at level 4500 I have recently found that the game will almost certainly drop players the right candies needed once we decide to pay 10 gold bars. I used to be much more hesitant to spend the gold for extra moves on my first attempt about a year ago, because I did find back then even if I was quite close, unless I could see on the board I would definitely pass with the next move or two I would end up having to make a choice whether to buy another 5 moves at the inflated price of 16 gold or quit and so have wasted the initial 10 gold. This rarely seems to happen now so I think King have changed the algorithms to reward players who choose to spend gold to keep their win streaks with some luck. I have noticed this in my main game because the game offers me adverts to watch for extra moves. I go on to watch two ads for 3 + 2 extra moves and when I then play on the board miraculously clears in just one move. I don't know for sure if this new, but the game has become much more predictable in the last few months, especially in those earlier levels up to about level 2000. So it has become obvious what is the best strategy to successfully play Candy Crush. I am currently testing out how far I can get and how much gold I can accumulate using the strategy of not spending any gold to buy boosters and it seems to work very well.

@christinewupp I don't really have a strategy anymore playing new levels. I used to until I hit 15000+. Now I just go with my instincts. I always play the starting boosters along with my candy necklace streak and hoping for another color bomb watching an ad. 9 times out of 10, I get that great double candy bomb! Granted, sometimes I have to use switches, but it's worth it. Meaning, I haven't had to use Gold to get past a level for extra moves. I seem win level after level doing this. (16116 currently)

Your insight and testing is awesome! I really enjoy reading what you so obviously have put a lot of time into.

Also want to give a shout out to @Carol-38 You said your $ for hammers and switches were 169 GB for 20. Mine are still 119 GB so I went ahead and bought some just in case my prices went up! LOL

So, back to the frustrating now…not playing this weeks race because everyone else is under level 1000 with the exception of 1 who is at 6900. Fair match-up, right? LOL

    Have a great day y'all! 😸

I love your "the more colour bombs the better" strategy. I've never bothered with the pre level ads as I seem to do nicely without them but I can see how this will really help a player at those horrible levels past 15,000! My top game doesn't have ads, but yes, thanks for sharing that great advice.

Mine and many others have had an increase in how many gold bars are now required @Rhonda_L another one of Kings strange changes. Well done with your Candy Royale at least there are some chances to get gold. Nice to hear from you, keep getting your gold and keep posting 🙂
