I still get frog levels in the 8000's mostly you can pass the levels without using the frog but sometimes you still have to use her.

As you can see, she is part of the order. 😀Happy Crushing.

Hello @T0rr1e now this really surprises me! I had thought King had done away with frog orders! I've scrolled back and I do have the same level as well. Have they forgotten this one? Strange… but nice!

Anyone who still thinks there is a future for Sam the frog in Candy Crush is mistaken. And I think I understand now why this is. The frog is too complicated for the computers that keep changing the level algorithms to compute. The changes that King have made recently that decide the outcome of each level (and King for some reason think that they MUST determine the outcome of each level, rather than leaving it up to players to use some skill, planning or thought).

Here is an example of a level that does still have a frog sitting there as a kind of ornament. This is a level players have recently got stuck on when moves were reduced to 22. @MannyFae you have advised on this level

previously. I was checking out why there had not been any questions about this or many other levels lately.

    This is the starting board:

I noted that this level is now rated "nightmarishly hard", so it's not impossible. Why? I tried to pass it using the frog as intended by the original design but there is no way I could get all the keys to drop in the moves allocated. The dragons were still locked up after 22 moves, so no point using the frog to get those toffee swirls.

Then I tried to see what happens if I follow exactly the moves suggested by the game. I played every single move the game told me to make and with each attempt got closer and closer to passing. Here is an example of how the game was teasing me to pay for the extra moves:

On my seventh attempt I passed the level. I got this combo:

And then got this winning combo which helped me pass:

Poor Samantha has nothing to do. You pass this one by doing what King tell you to do. Turn off hints at your peril, folks.

I am pretty sure that the reason King have made these level not use the frog any more is so that they can change the algorithms from one week to another like they do, in order to control if a level is pay-to-pass or if a level is easy to pass. The frog for them just gets in the way of that.

I came to the same conclusion regarding the future of the frog, and largely for the same reason: the frog mechanic is too complex for the level algorithm to account for. It is possible to beat the endgame algorithm and do something that the algorithm doesn't expect using the frog, and win. There are still levels in the 9,000 range and above that allow that, and I suspect they will be eventually removed. Another reason why they are removing the frog is that there are still levels where using the frog is essential, and they require basic understanding of how to handle the frog. Boosters cannot replace that understanding, and it's clear that King won't tolerate it any more. Every level should be winnable by using enough boosters/gold. That's where the game is headed.

This particular level can be won with or without the frog, and I've done it both ways. The way without the frog is safer because you don't risk moving the frog just when the key should drop, which could mess up the key dropping cycle. Using the frog feels more satisfying, though.

As for turning off hints at my peril, I'm not so sure about it, to be honest. I am doing okay even though I don't follow the suggested moves. I tried using the first move suggested by the game, etc. at one time, but it didn't do any good for me. I consider following suggested moves a matter of playing style, not an essential part of the game.

Of course I wouldn't suggest you turn on hints @MannyFae ! Nor would I suggest this to anyone with enough experience and understanding of the algorithms. Many of us know instinctively what the best move is. I do think though that for new players who get stuck on levels the hints can be really helpful to point them into the direction of what the game wants them to do. Anyone stuck on an early level for days without success must be missing the chances the game throws at them. If they followed the hints they would spot a lucky board a lot sooner and see when the game is trying to help. In the early levels the game always points out chances to make special candies and combos. In the later games the hints become pointless and sometimes misleading. Level 8329 was an exception in that the hints helped to pass the level and I think it is because it's a frog level. King don't want players to get stuck on frog levels. So they help them to pass those. The levels King want players to get stuck on are the ones they can control the algorithms of the last few moves, especially those they can leave us just one jelly short. It's exactly as you say: the frog gets in the way of that.

Understood. I overreacted to that phrase, sorry about that.

Agree about 8329 in that the luck level is rather high on that level, and it has not even been made Legendary despite being a typical 3 color level with highly controllable outcomes. I guess it's good that it can be passed following suggested moves, which is much easier to explain than complex mechanics.

    Level 2

I like the frog ( never knew it had the name Samantha) and I use it when its advantageous.

A lot of players like the frog, sadly many of Samantha's biggest fans have left the game for one reason or another.

On a more positive note, I've finally found the one frog level I'd been looking for thanks to a player asking about it in Support. I remember this one but didn't know if it still existed. It does!

This one is so interesting. I hope it will still be there when you get there @MannyFae . It has some interesting mechanics, and for the sake of the player in Support I tested it out and it does still seem to only work if we use the frog. On the other hand I wonder how many players use hand switches to make double colour bombs to pass this intelligent frog level.

Oh, that's a nice one. Such an interesting mechanic. Hopefully, they will spare this level since those who are not fascinated by interesting mechanics can pass it with boosters anyway.

Hey! Would you like to give us your opinion?
