what is going on? Every time I match 2 jellies the game freezes and then closes.
Lost all lives and extras now

Yes @Tamsyjam that appears to be the case. People's game's freezing is never a simple issue but the quantity of complaints would probably indicate that King must be involved rather than a lot of people suddenly having used up all of their devices memory or their internet suddenly not working.
I would suggest you post this as a question it the Support forum or contact Player Support about this. The game does not glitch for others, so in order to help you it's necessary to include some more information in your post. The technical experts need to know which device you are playing on and which update you are on. That kind of information would help them to sort things out.
