Hello @craigstoddart we haven’t got an answer about the problem, so we recommend contacting Player Support and explaining to them you’ve already asked in Community and don’t have an answer yet.
Since you can’t contact them from your device (as you said) you can use this link 👉 here. Select the right game, select topic “problems with my game” select subtopic send or receive lives. Don’t forget to mention your Game ID, how to find 👉 here

I'm really sorry to hear that! Please contact King support by doing the following steps
-Open the game app —> tap on the blue gear
- Tap on the ? mark
- Tap on Lives/Messages
- Select “What should I do if I’m not receiving messages from friends”
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap "Contact Us"
