Alpha Betty level 40. Problem with word length

This level is not recognizing words when the length has been met.  Is there another criteria such as points?  I've had six and seven letter words and received no credit.  Have done 4 letter words with the same result.

Look at the tiles you use in a word carefully, there a few things that can effect the total letter count. Vines act as blockers, you have to remove the vine from a tile before it can count in the letter count, making a 6 letter word count as 5 instead, or less if you use multiple vined tiles. Once vine free the tile will then be added to the total. Also blank tiles also do not count in the total.
