On AlphaBetty, why does my number of plays remaining drop by two points randomly?

Sometimes right after I have played a word my number of plays remaining drops by one, then immediately it subtracts two more turns left. What makes this happen?

In some levels there are blue tiles with a number in the lower right corner. If you don't use those tiles within the number of moves shown in the tile it will deduct 2 moves for the tile(s) not used or blasted.
