How do I get past level 25 on Alpha Betty?

I am sure that I have entered over 200 words easily -- some of them 5 and 6 letters; some only 4.  A friend sends extra tries for the game (usually 20 at a time) and I still can't progress past getting 3 cheeses. The letters stay there, even after being used in a word.  I simply cannot understand what I should be doing.
