How do I get a crown on alpha betty

There are many times that I form a four letter word but I don't get a crown.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it.  PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU.

    What device are you playing on Moconnell?   

    The reason I'm asking is because there seem to be more problems with the computer version/s of AlphaBetty so I'm trying to find why this is happening?
