Hi @Nikolaos_Prodromidis I'd like to answer you on that! Last month I wrote this story - What is the historical truth?. The information that I found online was very interesting. Not sure about the really old events like the story that I am doing now about the Prehistoric since there weren't any written records kept. But ever since the historians started keeping records the event definitely would have occurred but it's how the historian interpreted it that would differ. So yes they are real but how are they being interpreted? Interesting huh? That's one great thing that I've learned about being here and writing stories is the fact that I am learning so much online about various topics.

@Elsa But ever since the historians started keeping records the event definitely would have occurred but it's how the historian interpreted it that would differ. So yes they are real but how are they being interpreted?

Robin Hood and King Arthur are good examples of how what people think of as history can become blurred. Most people's knowledge of Robin Hood comes from films and fiction, and because of this reality has become blurred to make things interesting.

From your digging into history you would have discovered that knowledge was passed by word of mouth and even ballads.

I could go on, but simply put Robin Hood probably didn't exist as presented.. There is evidence that points to Robin actually being a conglomeration of ordinary thieves from back in the 13/14th centuries.

    Level 3

If I had a time machine I would have a hard time choosing only one trip to make. I could go back to when I was 18 and complete my college degree. That would be the wiser choice. I would probably follow my heart and go back to when I met the love of my life and tell him and his doctors the diagnosis they were missing so we could have more time together. 💕

That's funny that you mention Robin Hood @Alienscar because I posted a story recently about pirates and mentioned his name. I agree with you 100% that films ruin the events and the facts. They dramatize it and put in special effects and throw in romance now and then and the people fall in love with those movies. Look at those heroes! We know that history doesn't always happen that way.

You make a very interesting point about knowledge being passed by word of mouth and Google is a perfect example of that! Lots of people want glory in one way or another so they write blogs. How much research do they do before writing that blog? I did research when I was in college and my professor taught us to be the devil's advocate when reading previous studies. Don't always believe the truth in everything and try to cut through fact from fiction. So knowledge is passed not by word of mouth alone because now we have the Internet to pass the word along too.

Please explain to me more about what you mean by ballads.

Your last paragraph rings true to my story about pirates. Was he just another pirate and if he was did he steal for himself or did he steal to help the poor? Movies would want you to believe that he helped the poor but we'll never know for sure since he is not here to share with us why he did what he did. So all that we can go by is what historians write. It's a tough nut to crack but I'm surely enjoying our back and forth between you, me and @Nikolaos_Prodromidis.

  • Can you show me the story?

Welcome to our community @Rifka_Belkin! I want to tell you that you can go back to college at any age. I didn't start college until my early 40s and gained a Bachelor's degree and Masters' degree. Don't ever give up on education. What was your major?

So sorry to hear about the love of your life. (((((((((hugs)))))))

Hi @headoperations, you shared an interesting time frame and what you would do. Even though you feel that the decisions that you made back then weren't the best did you learn and grow from that time frame?

You taught me something very important this morning. Your signature .......... I never read what people write as their signature but something made me look at yours just now. It brought a smile to my face and you taught me a very important lesson and that is to pay attention to what people write.

So how about something not as funny to cause an aneurism but still funny?
