For a few years in the 1960s, Elsa the lioness was the most famous animal alive.
Raised
by humans after her mother's death, she was eventually released back
into the wild. Her story, which was made into a successful film,
inspired thousands of people to become involved in wildlife
conservation. The film is Born Free, a wonderful film with Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers , both actors who went on to do a lot for wildlife conservation, founding The Born Free Foundation
