Time is moving fast and Tiffi has not yet registered for the Twins Day Festival. She decides to find out more about this event.
“Hey guys, are we still going to attend the Twins Days Festival?” questions Tiffi. Let’s check it out together. This is what it says about their mission.”
“Mission
To provide fundraising opportunities for local organizations such as the Twinsburg Athletic Boosters, Twinsburg Vocal Boosters, Twinsburg Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and the Twinsburg Rotary Club.
To give back to the community by underwriting a $1,000 research grant, two $1,000 college scholarships for twin seniors, and two $500 college scholarships for Twinsburg High School seniors.”
“Here is some information on how it all began,” Tiffi says.
“In 1976, a small group of dedicated people planning Twinsburg’s participation in the bicentennial celebration that year decided to set aside one day for twins. The Twins Day Festival started with a flag raising and dedication of the Wilcox Monument on the square and the dedication of the first picnic shelter at Glenn Chamberlin Park. The following year determined not to let the idea die, a committee went into action, and made the second Twins Day happen. There were food booths that year operated by local service organizations wanting to raise funds for their treasuries, a band concert talent show, a Square Dance Exhibition and a bike-and-buggy parade for children 12 years and younger. With 38 sets of twins who attended that second year we were on our way. The Twins Days Festival is recorded as the Largest Annual Gathering of Twins in the World by the Guinness Book of World Records.’
The doorbell rings and it’s the twins who have stopped by to say hi to Tiffi and Mr. Toffee. Hugs and kisses. Philippe goes into the kitchen with Mr. Toffee and Jean-Luc comes over to find out what Tiffi is looking at on her computer.
“I’m checking out the Twins Day Festival,” Tiffi says. “We have to make reservations so I’m reading all about it. Go get a drink in the kitchen and I’ll continue to read what their website has to say about it.”
