As he tells Tiffi the story, he begins to break down again and the tears are back in his eyes.
“Then they took my sister and I with them,” Pan-Pan says. “They took us to a zoo where they had some other endangered animals.”
“I saw a red panda bear,” Pan-Pan continues. “There were no giant panda bears at the zoo. My sister and I were the first ones. I missed my parents so much and I didn’t like this place at all. My sister was adjusting and she loved to play with the red panda bear. I only wanted to go back home.”
He tells Tiffi that he talked to his sister and told her about his plans to escape.
“I told her that I can’t stay trapped in this place,” he says. “I told her that I was leaving and that she should be prepared to leave with me when it’s time to go. But when I told her that it was now time, she backed away from me. She told me that she didn’t want to leave and she liked playing with her new friend. I told her that I can’t leave her here but she walked away from me.”
Pan-Pan didn’t want to leave his sister there. He has no idea what he would tell his parents when he gets back home and she is not with him. He was so unsure of what his next step should be. Stay here and be sad all the time or leave and go back home to his parents.
