The timer starts and ends at midnight. Are you using more than one device to play the game, and/or are you playing through Facebook? It sounds like you're not synced.

Go ahead and follow those instructions and sync it with a King login. You might want to force stop your app, turn off your phone for a couple of minutes, and then look for a new update, too. But be sure to sync it. I only use my King login because it is way more stable than logging in through Facebook. I stopped playing any games through Facebook.
