New event?
No @christinewupp I don't think the best the Buffet is like the Episode Race. I think it is more like the Weekly Contest. Similar to the Weekly Contest different players can finish in different positions across various leaderboards. So whilst Lomy was first in mine and second in Palash's it doesn't mean Lomy was top of their own leaderboard.
Leaderboard style features aren't based off of records. This is obvious from the way you can see the scores of your opponents change as you play. I swapped positions with the second and third players a few times during the hour
I have found that in even stuff like Sam's Streak there are recordings that set a sort of minimum requirement you have to beat. Beyond that, if there are live players they might push it even further.
When you think about it, there really is no way they could ever have enough players to allow everyone to do 1 hour events all starting at random times.
This event is manufactured by King, I think, like the episode race and Candy Royale. I think that it's not a live event against other players but that they pick players' recordings for us to compete against and like in those other two events they choose those that will make it "challenging" for us. I had to score over 3000 blues to win my second Beat the Buffet, I'm sure it's because I won the first with such a high score. Moreover I have just noted another post in the Off-Topic forum that basically proves this.
As it shows, Palash who posted this screenshot, was also competing against the carrot Lomy who finished with a score of 2411, just like you @Alienscar .
This is not innately wrong and does not mean this event is not fun. I actually quite enjoy it, being a speed crusher, but like most of Candy Crush it is just an illusion.
We are just guinea pigs to the guys with the white coats in the King laboratory.
Haven't managed to get first place on my other attempts. Only having time to play one Episode a day obviously isn't enough.

Shame, it's something else that requires passing new levels @QueenB there aren't many side games and features many of us can participate in. Mind you that could be a good thing being as we don't have a scroll feature and scrolling up and down is a health issue for many 😭
Had it yesterday Christine and it didn't work by playing older levels, so I gave up.
It was very well done.
The intro screens were amusing, it was short and sweet and the reward was good.

I decided to play only new levels because I had an episode I had to finish before losing the champtions race. I played two and a half new episodes in the one hour. And the game hadn't thrown me out of the Winter Games at all, as I had thought. So that gave a nice comparison, as that one had the 30x multiplier. After one hour:
I hope those in my qualifier group aren't too upset at the "cheater" on top. I won't play this event now on that game, so they can catch me up. What I did learn from this is that my strategy is a good one: Collect enough gold and boosters to know you can cover up any slip-ups, then play starting boosters on every level, keep the top win streak, follow the first move the game suggests and then just crush away without much thinking! It worked for me this morning at levels in the mid 5000 range. Even legendary level 5456 (with its bombs count of just 3!) didn't catch me out with this strategy. I just played every move the game suggested and it let me pass. (Watch out for that one @Alienscar and try to approach it with a top win streak and all the starting boosters.)
I received it yesterday but declined to play it as I had just got the first place rewards from Sam's Streak and didn't want to waste the timed boosters on a feature that didn't provide gold.
That's a nice price. I think this one is for those of us who aren't playing in the winter games. Two of my three games have the start of the Yeti vs Tiffi leaderboard competition this morning, but my third game - where I got kicked out of the winter games- has this event as well. I'll give it a go later. I can crash quite a few candies in an hour. If anything it is going to be a nice test for reference.... Hang on, could this be why King are running this event? Having a database of the highest possible scores achievable in one hour could help weed out hackers in future events. But I guess that is just wishful thinking.
