Do you believe in lucky boards or is it a game of skill?

Hi there. I have finally come across a level that just proves my point that not every player gets the same board, even though it may look the same. Check out level 854. It only has 11 moves. Ridiculous, right?

How can anyone possibly pass this in 11 moves? Of course, only if you can get one of the UFOs with your first few moves. But can you? Can a skilled player do this? I dare say no: You just need to wait for the game to let you pass. You need to spot a lucky board and then take advantage of it. How long it takes for one to come up, now that is up to King and they change this every week. This week it took me so long, I was offered a whopping 100 extra moves for 10gold! Other weeks, it'll be on your second try I reckon.

This is how I got there, with my lucky board:

That was my starting board, looks good. Could this be THE ONE?

A few more moves and I've freed the UFO. And whoosh.....

One turn later and I know this really IS the ONE.

So I rest my case: You will pass when the game lets you pass. Nothing to do with skill. Nor with luck. It's all predetermined by whatever algorithm you are assigned to.

Thanks for you reply. And well done for getting so far already. Keeping a win streak and using starting boosters definitely helps. Unfortunately King have become so mean with boosters lately I have spent some gold to buy them, which I guess they want. But so far I am trying to keep adding to the gold by winning every episode race. I'm only on level 1500 in my catch up game (the first one got merged and I lost it, so I started another in July).

Yes christinewupp mine are like yours no legendary levels. Top of the levels until tomorrow on 2 accounts with none. 3rd family account up to level 2361 have none so far.

That's an interesting take on playing the game, Christine--beating its creators--and can see why it'd keep you playing. I think since I never prioritized advancing on the map, it's why I was more taken with the competitive aspect of beating scores.

But apart from the scoreboard's function of keeping scores, there's the practical matter of King disabling one of the only ways to send mass lives at once; already there's one new post in Discussions about it, and I imagine an influx is on the way. 👀🍿

Hi Christine, I have those legendary levels in my new game. I'm currently around level 4200. So far they haven't been that difficult to pass. A full win streak and starting boosters certainly help go through the levels a lot quicker.

I always have seen Candy Crush as a game to play against the people that make it, to beat the algorithms they set. I don't really like playing against other players. Sometimes I just feel sorry for them if I am running away in the weekly race. I just know I have easier boards and am playing in an easier level range than they are. Scores never interested me, but I understand that we all play a different style and for different reasons. I am sorry you have now lost your incentive to play @Deryck .

A lot of the features like the scoreboard/ landscape mode/ the old chocolate box etc are taken away one group of "test" players at a time. I'm not sure why King do it that way. Because they aren't testing anything, you always know damn well they will eventually just roll it out for everyone.

I still have that game with no legendary levels at all, and where I get a lucky board after trying a difficult level about five or six times at the very latest. I'd just like to know what kind of test group this one is that I am in. Does anyone know here? Do any of you guys have a game that does not feature legendary levels (burning skull and crossbones)? @cookiemae Do you have any of your games like mine without legendary levels? @Arrowflinger in your latest game do you have legendary levels? How far have you gotten to so far?

And a game of abeties plus has the board of luck. I myself have passed levels if it weren't for the lucky board I'd still be on it.

It seems when I spoke about the scoreboard not being present before, I wasn't experiencing what you were talking about (i.e., I only saw my own name in the board when I clicked on some random levels)

Until now. The scoreboard was completely removed from both PC and mobile today for me; the rectangular box/row is no longer there. 😤

I'm impressed you're still motivated to play; I see no point in playing...against myself?

That is roughly what King want players to believe.

What I call "lucky boards" is a board that will allow you to pass easily and these are part of the algorithm, they sometimes appear at the first try, the second try, after 5, 25 tries, or never at all. That is what I was trying to demonstrate with my first post.

Where UFOs go is not luck. They used to be more useful and always go for the frosting a few months ago. Now, the moment there is any liquorice curl on the board they go for that, break it up and make it harder to win. The developers decide where they go by re-writing the algorithm. It's careful manipulation, not luck.

My point of making the original post here was that I believe that what is on your starting board and what candies drop is NOT luck. It's what the developers have decided to put into their algorithms. It's fixed by King. That is different from what I would call luck. Luck implies that it is random.

Depending in how the board is, it may be luck based. Stuff like UFO's, Chocolate Founatain Spawning Chocolate /Dark Chocolate Area, or Dark Chocolate +1 layer or spreading. There might be a few more that I didn't think of.

If the board doesn't have any listed above 👆, then it is skill / skill-based. List of stuff that is skill based: 👇

Frosting (All layers 1-5), Marmalade, Liquorice Locks (or just a X Lock) , Liquorice Swrils, Candy Bombs (or ticking time bombs), Toffee Swirls (All layers 1-5), Bubblegom Pop (All layers 1-5), Magic Mixers, Candy Cobras, Wonderful Wrapper, Order Lock (Most orders), Sugar Chest (All layers 1-5), Liquorice Shell (All layers 1-3), Candy Cane Curl (All layers 1-3), Liquorice Curl (All layers 1-3) , Rainbow Twist (All layers 1-5, The Blocker), Crystal Candy (All layers 1-3) Sugar Coat (All layers 1-3), Rainbow Rapid Collector, Jelly Jar (or Jellyfish Block), Sour Skull, and Bon Bon Blitz (All charges and type of Bon Bon Blitz)

My Leaderboard was removed from my PC almost a year ago. I am use to not having it now but it was fun when I had it give me a reason to have the high score.

😮 The game would be way less fun for me without the competitive aspect of seeing the scoreboard. Didn't realize some folks had lost theirs.

Come to think of it, just today when I randomly clicked some old levels, I noticed I was the only player in the board. I figured it was a glitch, but I wonder if this mirrors what you've been experiencing. Where do you play? With PC, I virtually never had a missing scoreboard issue. I recently started playing on mobile, and that's where the issue presented.

The luck, I think, mainly involves cascades, which are unpredictable.

Case in point: I recently cleared L 3079 and I noticed what seemed like never-ending cascades during my play. I knew I'd likely get a high score but was still surprised seeing I ranked 2nd in my leaderboard of 1,000+ friends. (guess the #1 scorer had the same exp. on that level as me)

I guess there is still a little skill involved. Like spotting a lucky board and taking advantage of it and knowing which boosters to play and when not to waste boosters. You have to be good at recognising patterns. But luck, I'm not sure there is ever any luck involved, it's too heavily manipulated.

Game used to be skill until the new owners took over.
