What is needed for the Green Gems to show up? When I play they donβt show up.

I play so many levels to reach this!

My game was exactly the same, the level was guesswork to complete.
The level before had 4 rotating enlarged weird chocolates over the screen I couldn't see the board (I have had this weird obstructive screens in CCFS in the past)
The game had been playing up before as I couldn't decipher what I should be collecting, as it was very distorted.
I force closed my app. I checked for updates (which were up to date) Restarted my phone. This did solve the problem for me. Just a reboot of device worked for me.

It's very difficult to generally predict when those gems will show up in one's game as their occurrence varies greatly from one player to the other. Someone had to play 30 levels before seeing their first one, and then had to play another 30 to complete the hunt; whilst another player mentioned that they showed up every 5 levels in their game. The only thing to do to have them dropping in your game is to keep playing new levels. Have a good hunt! π

From the experience of all players that posted here, those gems only appear in new levels . There is no pattern in their frequency, it varies greatly from one game to the other.
