Level 2
I've been playing Candy Crush for 10 years, currently at level 16,986. A couple of days ago during a timed contest for the very first time—I purchased some gold bars and boosters for $2.99. That's when the game suddenly changed it's character for the worse…badly!
No opportunity to watch ads to earn boosters, no amount of extra moves offered after losing a level without having to use gold bars, no events to earn free boosters…NOTHING. Is this the way King treats you when you put out cash to buy some boosters?
It's like some evil AI logarithm that now knows you will pay, so it stops giving anything free.
Will this ever revert back to normal? Or now will I be in this version of Candy Crush Purgatory from now on? I'll tell you one thing—I'm not going to purchase anything ever again. And if this turns out to be permanent—I strongly suggest NOBODY EVER PAY FOR BOOSTERS…not even 1 time. You'll regret it.
Hello @Deadbug It's been many years now that we have heard reports exactly like yours. In fact we have NEVER yet heard from any player here who made a purchase and then carried on being able to see adverts and gain freebies from them, it is so definitely true that the algorithm you describe exists. About a year and a half ago I tested this out when I had annoying ads in two of my games. Three days after making a small purchase the ads were gone, to my relief, as I actually find them annoying and at the time thought that as King change our games in response to spending money they might include better events to compensate. I am still undecided about this. A lot of us play very successfully entirely for free, though never getting any help from ads at all, so there must be some compensation mechanism. King do change which "test group" players are assigned to with regards to what events we get and more importantly which version of events players see in their games. This is how they control our games. They do make changes month after month, but it would appear that this one you have just encountered is the one feature of the game that is permanent: Anyone who spends real money automatically loses the ads. We have been warning about this for years here. Welcome to the Community. Come and join us in the other threads and keep warning others about this.
christinewupp—thank you so much for your reply, even though it confirms my worst fear. Above all, I wish I knew about this fatal flaw in the game by spending time on the forum here. Unfortunately I didn't and was totally unaware of this. Yes, I found the ads annoying but a very small price compared to the resentment I'm feeling towards King's marketing/management for ruining the game for me. I would've gladly purchased from time to time in a tight spot with the game remaining as it was previously.
Thank you again for taking the time to reply.
