This post is a response to "https://community.king.com/en/candy-crush-saga/discussion/295388/ability-to-change-between-the-old-and-new-map" and "https://community.king.com/en/candy-crush-saga/discussion/295244/episode-map-change-since-april-1-2020". The episode names and backgrounds have been modified, possibly as an April Fools' joke; however it recentl turns out to be an optimization update that is about to go live, with heavy or unanimous opposition.
Candy Crush is now almost 500 episodes strong, and creating unique graphics for the background and map elements is an expensive process while only being tangentially related to the actual gameplay. It is as if giving each episode a unique personality and to make them memorable. However, due to memory and RAM caveats, and to appeal to a [potentially] broader compatibility, it seems rather reasonable to change the background and map elements.
However, I totally oppose the modification of episode names; as it seems it totally removes the "personality" of these episodes, from the early classic episodes to the high episodes. It is also noted that the actual episode names are still stored internally in the game.
I have a few proposals and revisions to this cycling map idea after the "toggling map mode" optimization has been vetoed:
@__MULLIGANACEOUS__ You seem to be clued up on these things. If we were to have A search box added to the game would that not solve some of the issues you mentioned with the old map?
Back when I had space race I found it frustrating that landmarks I relied on to find my favourite CB level were gone, although the scrolling was much quicker if I wanted to go to level 1 to give lives.
I upvoted on the "search box" feature proposal; it seems that feature is quite easy to implement; whereas the map optimization is harder to implement without changing the backgrounds to a 10-episode cycle.
The "search box" feature is completely independent of the map optimization feature. One can search for a level they already beat, and a dialogue will prompt that they can start the level the player selected without scrolling the map. Simple as that! Kinda like mystery quests back in the days.
Thanks for tagging me @Spinnifix! Welcome to our community @__MULLIGANACEOUS__. Reading the entire contents of your idea makes me feel that you must be working in the IT field. Is that true? I am not sure if you are aware of the fact that the studio has been updating the game and the episodes is one of them that they are working on now. I am keep this idea open for a bit but if it doesn't get enough votes then it will be closed.
I am actually in the IT field! Right now I am focusing on a more important real-life project. I did detailed analyses of all the leveks and redesigns in this game hopefully to attract and retain more players.
