Could not help but notice that you have no functions on your screen @CaroleBee.
Same thing happened to me, just about at the same time as you.
You can check out the discussion ‘Why do control/function buttons disappear?’ on 31 May. [Sorry, do not know how to link the discussion]
The problem online is not fixed, but the download suggested by Sukanta_Biswas works properly, and, be warned, the game is a whole lot more addictive ;)
You will perhaps you would need a different download, since you are on a Mac laptop.
Hope they do not mind, but I will TAG the Legend @AbhinavSargar and CM @Lola_Pop already helping you out, so they could help you further and hopefully also try figure out why King.com online has so many bugs.

Issues are Occurred because of Changes in Updates and Incompatibility with the Game on Different Platforms.
As Everyone works from home, there are possibly delays in issues getting corrected because it's isn't easy to fix such issues.

Can you please try to open the game from an incognito tab in Safari (learn how here) , or use a different browser and see if this solves the problem?
Also, if you're using any bookmark to open the game, try to just open it without using the bookmark for once, and please let us know how that goes. 🤗
