Early the next morning, the girls are up, dressed and ready to start a new day. Tiffi is hoping that they have time to stop by the King office to see the gang. They head on over to Bike Tour America to get their bikes. The girls are pleased that they found a FREE bike tour and they just have to pay for the bike rental. A guide greets them and offers a brief introduction about Barcelona and the history of the city.
“Now I would like to share with you the story of Christopher Columbus,” guide says.
The girls had no idea that Columbus had started all his voyages from Barcelona, which was the capital of Spain at the time. Very interesting! And now the biking tour begins!
They cycle down a lane and find a big colour face sculpture. The guide explains that this was created by Roy Licenstein and was commissioned for the Olympics.
The tour continues on a back route through the Gothic area to the Cathedral. The guide shares an extraordinary story about a girl in the 3rd century who rose up against the Romans who occupied Barcelona at the time. She was tortured and put to death at the hands of the Romans. Her life is the first evidence we have that Christianity had arrived in Spain and that is why the Cathedral is dedicated to her. Wow!
Let’s continue to the next part of the story - That was a lot of fun!
