Lunch is over. Now what should they do? Rachel takes out her notes and throws suggestions to them.
“We could rent bikes and take a bike ride through some areas,” Rachel says. “There is this
Plaça Reial fountain that looks very interesting. Look at this picture! Isn’t it beautiful? This is what I found online about it.”
‘In the centre of the Barcelona Placa Reial is a classically designed fountain where many people gather and take in the atmosphere. It’s known as the “Fountain of Three Graces“, which refers to the statue of the three women. The women are said to be the daughters of Zeus; Euphrsyne, Aglaea, and Thalia, representing beauty, charm, and joy which I think sums up this beautiful plaza quite well.’ (Info here)
The girls decide that they have to check it out.
“Wow! Look at this place,” says Rachel. “The entire square is surrounded by restaurants, tapas places, and bars. Jenny come look at this! Maybe this is where Rancid and I should get married. Look at home pretty it is and the fountain would be a wonderful background for our wedding pictures.”
Did the girls hear right? Is Rachel finally going to accept Rancid’s prosposal? They girls look at each other and smile.
Now they head on over to the Magic Fountain. Rachel shares why they call it magical.
‘The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Catalan: Font màgica de Montjuïc, Spanish: Fuente mágica de Montjuic) is a fountain located at the head of Avinguda Maria Cristina in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
It was designed by Carles Buïgas, who had designed illuminated fountains as early as 1922. The site where the fountain was constructed was the previous location of The Four Columns. The columns, representative of the Catalanism movement, were demolished in 1928 under the orders of Prime Minister Miguel Primo de Rivera and were re-erected in 2010 a few meters away from the original location.
In the 1980s, music was incorporated with the light show and the fountain, along with the Museu Nacional (National Museum), was completely restored prior to the 1992 Summer Olympics, held at Montjuïc. Performances include film, classical, and modern music, such as The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, a Spanish zarzuela movement, "Barcelona" by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé, and modern pop songs. Performances take place at half-hour intervals every weekend, with weekends extended during the summer season. (Wikipedia)
If they have time in the evening they will come back to see the light show.
