Poor Odus! He has no idea why he volunteered to do mime when he knows nothing about it. He thinks that maybe he should call Tiffi back to say that he can’t do it. Maybe he should just do backstage. But before he calls her, he looks online to see what mime is all about.

‘History of Mime - Mime started back in Athens in the theatre of Dionysus. Mime is a form of drama that tells a story without using words. The Romans took over the Greek theatres and turned them into their own. The Romans used mime to mock battles. The Christians closed down all theatres, but mime survived and slowly came back with a more religious theme. Mime entertained throughout the middle ages but hit its heights in Italy - form of commedia dell Arte. This originated in markets on the streets of Italy in the early 1500s.The mime performers almost always wore masks with exaggerated comical features; the characters created were know as Zanni. When two Zanni performers joined mime was firmly established as a genre in the 1500s

Types of Mime

There are now two major types of mime; Literal and abstract or a combination. Literal is used as comedy. Generally it tells a story and has a funny design. Abstract mime is used to create feelings. It's used to create an image and thoughts on a serious topic or issue in one’s head.

 Modern Mime

Almost two and a half centuries later a boy named Jean Gaspard Batiste Deburau and his family performed at Funambules in Paris. He stayed at the same theatre until he died.  He converted the crude slapstick form of mime, art form know as today. He was the master of mime; he created lovestick 'Pierrot' the eternal seeker. The film 'Les enfants du paradis' was shot in 1945. Decroux and Barrault were in the film. The film showed the fictional story of Deburaus life. Marcel Marceau emerged after World War 2. He created the character 'Bip' and become one of the most famous mime artists of all time.’ (Info here)

Well that’s not helping Odus much. He needs to find out what kind of acts that they can perform. Aha! That’s it! This article Mime Act for Kids might give me the answers! It might not be too difficult, after all!
