On the way back home, Rachel stops at a bakery store to get some ideas for a wedding cake. When she walks inside the smell of all their cakes and bread baking brings a smile to her face.
The woman behind the counter is busy helping someone so Rachel just walks around the store. There are so many good things and she’s happy that she ate lunch otherwise she’d buy one of each. She looks at the cakes and some are wedding cakes. She’s really not sure if she wants to go with a formal wedding cake or maybe just a regular cake decorated with Christmas things on it would be more appealing to everyone.
Suddenly her phone rings and she sees that it’s Rancid calling.
“Hi honey, what are you doing?” asks Rachel. “I’m at the bakery right now. I met up with Elsa and the girls to discuss details for the wedding and I think we got a lot done. Now I’m at the bakery to look at wedding cakes. Oh, by the way, I ordered some save the date invitations and they should arrive at the house within the next day or two.”
They say their goodbyes and the woman is still busy so she decides to go on Google to look at cakes.
“Oh, there is an article about the history of wedding cakes,” thinks Rachel. “I’ve got to read that!”
“The wedding cake has been a part of the ceremony since the ancient Greeks and Romans. As part of the nuptials, the groom broke bread over the bride’s head. This was to symbolize her submission, the end of her purity, and to represent good luck and fertility.” (Source)
The sales person is now free and asks Rachel if she can help her. Rachel tells her that she’s looking for a wedding cake. She opens up a book and shows her some pictures. Rachel tells her that she doesn’t know if she wants a traditional 3-tier cake or something much simpler.
“We are getting married on Christmas Day so I was thinking maybe some Christmas decorations like the bottom left cake. The third one on the top row is kind of like a typical 3-tier cake but much nicer than those all white cakes. But maybe I should go with small individual squares like that picture. My guests are not into fancy. I’ll have to think about it and get back to you. How much notice do you need?”
They discuss a few more details and Rachel leaves the bakery.
