Oh no, coffee cup is empty. Time for a refill before starting her Google search. She decides to really get into the mood for Christmas so she heads on over to YouTube to play some Christmas music. Then she starts her search but is unsure what words to type in the search engine. She knows that she wants to use ‘around the world’ but does she look for ‘not celebrating Christmas’? After a few tries she finally chooses what seems to be a good idea.

December Holidays around the World and then she wants to check out what other holidays happen around Christmas. She begins the search with the December Holidays around the world first.

‘Few months present as many multicultural celebrations as December. From Christmas to Omisoka, the last month of the year is a “world of holidays.” Let’s take a look at some of December’s holidays around the world.
Christmas - One of the most widely known December holidays, Christmas traditions vary around the world. While Americans celebrate with Christmas trees, visits from Santa Claus, and dreams of snowy landscapes, Christmas falls during Australia’s summer, where it is popular to go camping or to the beach over the holiday. Some Australians decorate a “Christmas Bush,” a native Australian tree with small green leaves and flowers that turn red during the summer.

In England, Christmas traditions are similar to those in the United States, but instead of leaving milk and cookies for Santa Claus, children leave mince pies and brandy for Father Christmas. In Iceland, capital city Reykjavik turns into a winter wonderland with its Christmas market and for the children, there is not one but thirteen Santas, known as Yule Lads. One arrives each night in the thirteen days before Christmas, leaving small gifts in shoes left in window sills.’ (Source)

She is getting a text message. Oh Tiffi is asking what she’s doing. Instead of responding back with a text message she decides to give her a call.

“Hi Tiffi, what’s up?” asks Elsa. “I was thinking of writing a new Christmas story for the community but then realized that not everyone celebrates Christmas. So instead of another Christmas story, this year I’m going to write a story about December holidays around the world.”

Tiffi thinks that’s a super idea and offers to help. Elsa tells her that perhaps they can meet up at Le Bistro tomorrow for lunch and she will share what she finds online today. Sounds like a plan!

Let’s continue - December holidays

Start at the beginning - Not everyone celebrates Christmas
