Rachel is surprised that David understood everything that Yeti told him. David looks around and he has another question for Yeti.
“Why is the sun yellow?” asks David.
‘The sun appears a yellow color because it sends out more yellow light than any other color. Clouds reflect all the colors the exact same amount so they look white.
“You might understand it better if I show you a video,” says Yeti.
He picks up his tablet and types in Why The Sun Isn't Actually Yellow and then he turns around to show David and Rachel the video.
David is impressed with this information and the questions continue……………
“Why does it rain?” asks David.
‘We get rain when there is an area of disturbance, usually associated with a low-pressure system. The water vapor in the clouds creates droplets and those droplets keep getting bigger and bigger until the fall. When they fall, it creates rain!
Here come more why questions! Yeti is enjoying these questions and it’s not wearing him down yet.
Why do clouds turn gray?
Clouds are made up of tiny water droplets or ice crystals, usually a mixture of both. The water and ice scatter all light, making clouds appear white. If the clouds get thick enough or high enough all the light above does not make it through, hence the gray or dark look. Also, if there are lots of other clouds around, their shadow can add to the gray or multicolored gray appearance.
Why do clouds float?
A cloud forms when air heated by the sun. As it rises, it slowly cools it reaches the saturation point and water condenses, forming a cloud. As long as the cloud and the air that it’s made of is warmer than the outside air around it, it floats!
Why do clouds form at different heights?
The characteristics of clouds are dictated by the elements available, including the amount of water vapor, the temperatures at that height, the wind, and the interplay of other air masses.’ (Source)
“Enough questions David,” says Rachel. “You are going to wear out your new friend’s offer to help us.”
Yeti doesn’t mind at all.
“Why is it so easy for you to come up with answers that he understands,” asks Rachel.
Yeti tells her that he is always online searching for information. He tells her about his best friend Tiffi who got him started on googling.
“Maybe if we get together again I will ask Tiffi to join us,” says Yeti.
It’s time for Rachel and David to leave but before they do Yeti offers his cell phone number if they would like to get together again. Rachel thanks him and they both wave goodbye.
Let’s continue - Yeti meets up with Tiffi in the park
