Easy fix. Your iPhone sound can’t be off
Yes, this still is the case, you need to every time close the app and not leave it on the background open and you will be able to hear it all again.
but you need to close it completely each time :-)
I also have the same problem on my iPhone, when I start the game everything is fine but after a while the sound effects are gone, but I can still hear the music. When I restart the game it is fixed. My phone and the game are up to date and the sound effects button is ON so that’s not the problem. I hope this issue can be solved.
I have the exact same problem, it’s really annoying. I like hearing the sound effects but sometimes they just don’t work. Even though I turn them on and make sure my phones sounds on. I really don’t think there’s a problem with the device, since I don’t have similar problems in any other apps. I use and iPhone. I think it’s a problem with the game, considering that several users have the same issue.

I don't think there is a problem with the game, I think your device has a problem so you should follow some troubleshooting steps here.

Had the same, I have an iphone so everytime I have to close candy crush from running on the background, then I open it again and blam it works perfectly.
this issue had nothing to do with turning on the sounds because it was always on but once its running on the background and then you start to play later again, it doesnt have sound. Close it and then start again and it will be solved.
@Joosy Did you ever end up finding a solution to this problem, as I have exactly the same issue. The sound and music buttons are both 'ON' and the volume up on my computer but no sound at all. I check with other apps on my computer and the sound works fine, just not in the game. So frustrating.

Is there a moderator on the forum anymore? This glitch just started today, the new levels that were just added are not syncing across my devices. All are up to date. It's also been saying occasionally about no connection, but closing out the game and restarting seems to take care of that. The real issue is the syncing…
Anyone else have an issue with the booster wheel not letting you spin? Mine says come back in xxx hours for the next spin, but the next spin never comes. I am so stuck on level 7280 and I need some booster help!!
