Early next morning, the girls woke up bright and early.  A week from this Thursday is Thanksgiving so Tiffi checks her list once more to make sure that she heard from everyone and the menu was completed.

“Kimmy, we never heard from Nutcracker,” Tiffi says.  “Have you heard from him at all?”

It slips Kimmy’s mind to let Tiffi know that Nutcracker called and said that he is looking forward to Thanksgiving.  He is plans on bringing some nuts for everyone to enjoy.  He tells Kimmy that he will bring bowls of walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and beechnuts and he will help to crack all of them.  Kimmy is surprised to learn that having nuts on Thanksgiving is a tradition that dates back to the earliest records of the holiday feast.

The Wampanoag Indians, like most eastern woodlands people, had a “varied and extremely good diet.” The forest provided chestnuts, walnuts and beechnuts. “They grew flint corn (multicolored Indian corn), and that was their staple.  You can read more about it here.

Nutcracker is enjoying all the history that he is finding on Google.  He gets the idea that maybe he can share the trivia and history with Odus, but first he will see what else he can find out the holiday.

He begins reading the history information from Wikipedia.

“Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in Canada, the United States, some of the Caribbean islands, and Liberia. It began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Similarly named festival holidays occur in Germany and Japan. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States, and around the same part of the year in other places. Although Thanksgiving has historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, it has long been celebrated as a secular holiday as well.”

He realizes that this might really be great to share with all his friends, so he copies and pasts this information into a Word document.  He calls Odus to share this information but gets his voicemail, so he leaves him a message.

Who else is looking for Thanksgiving information on Google?  Let’s find out here.

If you arrived here, then you might want to start at the beginning of the story
