Now it’s Jenny’s turn. Rancid wishes her good luck.
One of the judges asks her to introduce herself by giving her name and where she lives.
“My name is Jenny and I live in the Cotton Kingdom.”
“And what are you going to do for us today,” the judge asks.
“I am going to do some fruit art by carving this watermelon,” Jenny says.
“How about I show you how to carve a watermelon into a baby carriage?” Jenny asks.
“The materials that you will need for this project is a whole watermelon, 2 grapefruits, blueberries and 4 cups of fruit salad to fill carving (I am using cut up watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe).
You will need a sharp knife, toothpicks, a baby pacifier and baby décor, but the latter is optional.
Instructions:
• Cut a thin slice from the bottom to provide a stable base.
• Draw the outlines for the carriage as best you can to mirror the image.
• Use a sharp knife to cut out the section to be used for the handle. Cut all the way through the rind.
• Use a decorating tool or knife to cut the fancy edges of the carriage.
• Remove the top section of rind.
• Hollow the carriage and attach the handle with toothpicks.
• Attach wheels made from grapefruit slices and hubcaps made from blueberries.
• Place second grapefruit as baby head on top of one large cube of watermelon to preferred height inside the carriage.
• Attach blueberry eyes with toothpicks.
• Cut cantaloupe and make nose and attach with toothpick. Cut remaining into cubes or use a melon baller for fruit salad.
• Cut a small slit in grapefruit and insert pacifier.
• Fill the carriage with approx. four cups of fruit salad like watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew melon.” (Info here)
The judges are impressed with how quickly Jenny carved that watermelon and hardly a mess at all.
“Thank you very much,” Jenny says as she leaves the stage.
